Jersey Barbies

A good friend forwarded me an email featuring all kinds of specialty Barbies from New Jersey. I couldn’t stop laughing and immediately forwarded to my sister, who loves all things New Jersey. Hey, we’re from there, you know.

Growing up, I had a brunette Barbie in a tight bathing suit that barely covered her boobs. She lived with Ken in a shoebox under my bed. I used to put Barbie on top of Ken, so maybe even then there was an inkling of my future orientation.

My sister, who loved dolls and dress-up, had Barbie, Skipper (her sister), Midge (Barbie’s best friend), and a boy doll named Teddy, who was Skipper’s boyfriend. Sharon used her allowance to get zillions of their outfits and accessories. When she got Barbie a wedding dress she borrowed Ken for the ceremony. I hope I asked her for Midge to keep my Barbie company for the afternoon!

Anyway, now we have a Barbie just for us! Introducing…”Cape May Barbie”!
“She has long straight brown hair, no makeup, and clogs. She prefers that you call her Willow. She does not want or need a Ken doll, but if you purchase the optional Subaru wagon, you get a rainbow bumper sticker for free.”

Oh, how I laughed at this one – even before I read the words! I had a boy doll – my Jimmy doll. Only 2 other dolls the rest of my life. Never had a Barbie (except for 2 cute nurses I worked with back in the 70’s that were Barbies!). It’s well worth buying the Subaru wagon – just to get that free sticker! Mary
